Season 1 map pool

Map pool and vetoes

The map pool aims to be diverse and fun, so it will also incorporate maps not in the current ladder pool. Each player has 3 vetoes which they can change once every week. Every week will have a set starting map for your Bo3, after the first match it follows „loser’s choice“. The set starting map overrules any veto.

All maps can be found on NA and EU in the Custom Games tab, under Melee: just search for “cyosl”!
Playing on the CyOSL versions of the maps is mandatory!

The map pool for Season 1 is as follows:

CyOSL Purity and Industry

Inhibitor Zone Generators (IZG) received a negative impression from players. This is mainly because getting slowed feels bad in all games. I thought about how IZGs could be used while reducing the frustrating sensation of players. This is why i choosed to use IZGs exclusively in areas where only air units can be affected. To fully use air only IZGs, i decided to use a map layout where both players start very close by air like back in the days on lost temple. I compensate the short air travel time by filling the air gap with IZG. I kept a small space that isn’t slowed on the edge of the map. This route allows for a safer attack and retreat path for air drop and harass. The power of air play toward the main base is reduced because the attacker’s units will get hit a few more times by the defender if they go straight through the IZG. The ground rush distance is quite long to bait players to still go for air units even if they are weaker in this map.
The starting locations are very close by air but there are three rows of Inhibitor Zone Generators in the air space between the bases.

CyOSL Golden Wall

This map’s structure is very unique. A wall divides the map in two very distinct halves. The bottom half of the is inaccessible at the beginning of the game. There are 3 ways to get to the bottom part:
– Mine the middle reduced minerals
– Mine the gold base
– Mine the main backdoor
The players can choose to play the way they want. They can play the map in a vanilla style with five easy bases on the top part of the map. Or they can take advantage of the unique features of the map and outsmart the opponent by using the bottom part of the map.
The Golden Wall splits the map in two distinct halves. The bottom part is totally closed by walls of minerals in multiple places. Players can choose to play as usual by only using the top part or get innovative and use the bottom part.

CyOSL Ever Dream

The map has 16 blue bases, two of which have a single rich gas geyser. The average rush distance is 37s. There are rocks in the middle path and on the ramp leading into the lowground third. Line of sight blockers are situated in the 11 & 5 o’clock positions on the outer path of the map an in the highround near them in addition to the direct middle. Main bases not directly in the corner.
Rocks in the middle path can be destroyed to widen the path. One of the lowground bases has a Rich Vespene Geyser to boost up the players’ gas income.

CyOSL Winter’s Gate

Winter’s Gate is a smallish map with a direct route between the highground thirds. However, Inhibitor Zone Generators are placed along the way to slow down any units that go past them. So whether you are attacking or retreating be sure to be cautious of the path you are choosing.

It is now summer and the slow fields have been replaced by acceleration fields.

CyOSL Frost

CyOSL Shakuras Plateau

(cross spawns enforced)

Shakuras Plateau is a four-player map released with the SC2 beta and originally intended for 2v2 play. It replaced Kulas Ravine on the 1v1 ladder on October 7, 2010.
Because of the strength of pushes between adjacent mains, especially in Terran vs Zerg, tournaments such as the TSL chose to disable horizontal spawn positions, and on February 26, 2011, Blizzard removed the map from rotation on the ladder. Intended to ameliorate this issue, a new version, here referred to as 2.0, was released and added to the ladder map pool on March 22, 2011.
For the CyOSL I changed the texture to a lush green Aiur style.

CyOSL Catalyst

A solid, medium sized 14 base map for standard play.
The expansion pattern is very flexible – after the linear 3rd, take your pick of aggressive vs defensive, forward vs protected bases.
The long, arcing high grounds can be very powerful for map control, acting as a staging point to defend multiple bases as the game progresses. These fairly narrow/chokey ridges provide a contrast to the 2 wide open central low-ground areas.
Frontal attacks are initially funneled through 3 consecutive chokes: the rock-narrowed ramps in front of the naturals, and the central choke point – the aggressor may prefer to move along the high ground, or take one of the side paths. Later on, the large rocks near the center can be destroyed to open up the direct attack paths across the central high grounds.
Secure the high ground arcs to maintain map control, or destroy the large rocks to open up the main central attack paths.

I changed the season to winter.

CyOSL iCCup Testbug

iCCup Testbug is a unique 3 player map that features four distinct geographic regions. It has been played in the iCCup Map Series and is part of the iCCup Map Pool. The map also features Xel’Naga Towers that can only be accessed after destroying the 8×8 rocks that surround them. The map is named after the Broodwarmaps.net map-maker Testbug. ESL announced the use of Pawn together with Testbug for use in their Go4SC2 series from February 2011 onwards. In mid February 2011 CraftCup removed the Blizzard map Steppes of War from their mappool and replaced it with Testbug. In the 2011 circuit MLG included Testbug in their map pool for their first Dallas competition, with a slightly modified version replacing it in the second session, Columbus.
